As promised in this blog last week, candidate for local council Kathy Jeffery sent me a little background on herself as follows:
As a lifetime Collingwood Resident having previously served two terms on Municipal Council (7 years), I will bring to the table experience, a work ethic (I’m a worker bee), and a commitment to community involvement and to keeping the best interests of our community at the forefront.
My education and employment background serve me well in the role of Municipal Councillor. I am a Georgian College Graduate, Legal Secretarial Program, a staff accountant and audit technician, formerly employed by law offices (5 years), accounting firm (5 years), Georgian Triangle Economic Development Corporation (13 years), currently employed as National Account Manager, CBS Outdoor Canada (14 years). Additionally, I have run my own business for more than 20 years.
My favourite person is a volunteer – my own community volunteer work spans over 25 years including National President of one of the largest service organizations in Canada, providing me with experience in rules of order, goal setting, media relations, conflict management and personnel.
During the past four years I have continued with my volunteer contributions as follows: Inclusive community – Chair, Georgian Triangle Accessible Sport Council; Vice Chair – Home Horizon (transitional housing for the homeless); Committee Member, Donor Stewardship Committee, Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation; Volunteer Co-ordinator, Wordstock (2011).
I will bring a focus and attention to strategic goals to work toward a more positive financial position for our municipality, to improve local economic development and opportunities for jobs we need so desperately, while balancing the cultural, recreational and other needs of our growing community.
